Do you know what it feels like to walk around without any direction of where to go or how to get there?
Then you will quickly realise that planning and goal setting are the first and foremost important steps you need to take to get your affiliate marketing business off the ground. Even though I just said that, I cannot count the people I have been in touch with who just ignored this step. It is a critical error to make…
Without a clear path and direction you will end up failing to follow through on important steps you need to take and you will not make any money. The internet can be addictive and distractions are lurking everywhere. Not having a plan will pull you along those distractions and leave you without a structured path to success.
If you are not prepared to write down your goals you are really missing a trick!
But setting your goals doesn’t have to be difficult, but they need to be defined clearly, be believable and most importantly achievable.
You may have heard about the KISS (Keep it Simple Stupid) principle. This simply defines your goal targets as follows (starting with a realistic financial target):
- What do I want to earn in the first 30 days of starting? (A break-even figure should be the first aim in the first 30 days)
- How much do I want to make in the next 6 months?
- … the first year?
- … the second year?
- Where do I want to be in 3 or 5 years time? (Success-wise & financial rewards targets)
Make sure that you do keep a written record of your goals. But do this by writing it into a journal, create a poster style ‘memory board’ or scribble it on a calendar. Avoid doing this in a word processor or computer. Why? It has been proven in science that writing out notes and goals manually by hand are subconsciously much deeper rooted than a quick electronic note.
Another important aspect to goal setting is that they should not only be in the KISS principle, but also adhere to the SMART formula:
T imed or Timeframed
Spend about 30 minutes to an hour without any distractions to write them down. Clearly spell out in writing the reasons WHY you want to be a successful affiliate marketer. Be as specific as possible. WHAT would you do with the extra money? WHAT would you spend it on? Only when you have set out specific reasons, defined your deep desires and your personal commitment will you be able to reach your goals.
Then, every morning spend about 10-15 minutes to review, edit and update your goals and progress you have made. This repeated action will create a momentum which drives you closer to achieving your goals.
